Ah, Sundays at the Corner — where the beer’s cold, the music’s hot and the vibe’s just right. We’re bringing back the magic of lazy arvos and filling them with a bunch of pared-back Front Bar Sessions. Think free live music, good company and that unbeatable Corner Front Bar energy.
It’s the kind of place where you can pull up a stool, order a pint and lose track of time while local legends and up-and-comers play you a Sunday soundtrack.
Our Front Bar Sessions won’t stick around forever, so make the most of ‘em while they’re here. Round up the crew, grab a spot by the bar and let’s finish the weekend the right way.
‘Afrodelik’ music that fuses Psychedlia, Zamrock and West African Highlife. Hailing from the Australian surf town of Torquay, Immy grew up living and learning in two worlds; the coastal rock scene and the West African culture of his Ghanaian roots. His Caucasian friends consider him quite ‘ethnic,’ his African family thinks he’s far too ‘bogan’ and his music reflects the melting pot of all the pieces that put him together. Wishing to explore the trans-atlantic origins of Rhythm, Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll, in 2016 he travelled to Ghana to study with his grandfather, legendary ‘Palm Wine Highlife’ musician Koo Nimo.
His music has received rave reviews and substantial airplay around the world including on KEXP, Worldwide FM, NPR and Bandcamp Weekly and have been included in various mixes and playlists including by Dangermouse.
Immy Owusu’s debut album LO-LIFE! draws on the work of West African giants such as Ebo Taylor and William Onyeabor. Created with members of Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo, and The Senegambian Jazz band, LO-LIFE! was album of the week on PBS, SYN and French Independent Radio.
Recently voted Music Victoria’s 2023 Best Musician and Nominated for Best Regional Act, his live band is an unmissable performance destined to invigorate your soul.
